he Jumping Spider is a type of spider characterized by its exceptional ability to leap up to 50 times its own body size and hundreds of small hair on its legs. The tip of each hair has an end foot that enables the jumping spider to move on any type of terrain. Aside from its jumping ability, it is also known to have a great sense of sight due to its 4 pairs of huge eyes. All in all, there are over 5000 species of jumping spiders all over the world, and their sizes and colors vary widely depending on the species. Compared to females, males are more colorful. These arachnids can be found throughout the world and can survive in tropical forests, as well as harsh environments such as icy mountains and deserts. In fact, some are found to inhabit Mount Everest. Jumping spiders are more active during the day and do not use web to hunt their prey. They track their victim, jump on it, and finally inject venom. Generally, these spiders are classified as carnivores and their diet typically consists of insects and other spider species. However, some species can be categorized as omnivores as they consume nectar and pollen. Before mating, the male jumping spider dances for the female by moving around in a zigzag direction. When two males want to mate with a single female, they will both do their moves and the female will choose one or neither of them. Although these spiders may look hazardous to human beings, their bite is actually not dangerous and some people may only show an allergic reaction to their venom.

Status According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the Napoleon Jumping Spider is listed as Critically Endangered because of the deteriorating quality of their habitat. Meanwhile, the Jean’s Jumping Spider is classified as Vulnerable due to the heightened pressure from invasive predatory species, such as ants and other species of spiders.
